Balancing Religious, Disability and Transgender Accommodations in the Workplace
Workshop Description
With the myriad state, federal and local laws protecting employees' rights in the workplace, employers often face confusing, and sometimes conflicting, obligations. The scope of what may be considered a reasonable accommodation continues to expand for religious convictions, disabilities, and for transgender employees. This program will provide insight and practical guidance to HR professionals who handle complex accommodation requests. It will cover issues such as how employers should accommodate mental health conditions. It also will address how employers should handle requests for accommodations based on employees' religious beliefs and convictions. It will provide advice to employers on how to respond when an employee announces his or her intent to undergo a gender transition. The panel will offer practical, legal guidance on navigating the accommodations process.
