Public Policy and Financial Literacy

Very short description for use in the program to help attendees understand more than a title can describe

The apparent success of financial literacy education has been based on the simplification of public policy initiatives that are primarily focused to improve financial skills and not financial behavior outcomes. This paper highlights the extent and the effect of public policy on financial literacy education among American households, reviews previous efforts of public policy to promote financial literacy, and discusses new directions for public policy initiatives.

 I.    The importance of financial literacy education

II.   The positive and negative effects of public policy on financial literacy education

III.  A framework to guide public policy initiatives that may successful impact financial behaviors
