2. Collection Development & Assessment

Learning Objectives

Following this session, participants will be able to identify what their library is trying to accomplish in creating a statistics dashboard.

Following this session, participants will be able to articulate why a dashboard could be a useful tool for their library. Need to secure more funding? Add to library outreach efforts within the community? Demonstrate that the library has great value and can create a compelling product? All of these reasons (and more) are valid reasons for creating a statistics dashboard.

Following this session, participants will be able to consider how the visualization of use data/statistics might inform their library’s collection management strategy.

Abstract

The Collection Development Office at University of Wyoming Libraries was tasked with designing a statistics dashboard that ties collection-building efforts to research at the university. The project lead will discuss the what, why, and how of building a dashboard that features quantitative and qualitative information about the Libraries’ collection.
