Room 203
Conference Track
6. Scholarly Communication
Learning Objectives
- define altmetrics,
- list some of the uses to which altmetrics are being put by librarians and researchers, and
- understand the ways in which the respondents to nationwide surveys of academic librarians and LIS faculty are thinking about altmetrics in relation to their work, their teaching, and their research
Abstract
Altmetrics measure the impact of scholarship via mentions in social media and other non-traditional venues. For librarians and faculty, altmetrics are also a new area for research. The focus of this presentation is the results of surveys of academic librarians’ and LIS scholars’ awareness and use of altmetrics.
