S85 - Needle in a Haystack: Promoting Core Journals in the Age of Discovery
Conference Track
5. User Experience
Learning Objectives
identify the problems users have accessing core journals in large discovery systems, select core journals using published core journal lists and faculty surveys, and manage core journal lists using several different methods, including extracting data from an ILS, using saved database searches, simple web lists/RSS feeds, and utilizing licensed systems like Browzine.
Abstract
In this age of discovery, users access a staggering amount of journal content, but do they find core journals in their field? Librarians and faculty at a small Midwestern college believe users benefit from highlighting core journal titles. Explore solutions (DIY and licensed) for creating/maintaining custom lists of core journals.
