S83 - Unlocking Data Trapped in Audio and Video Files

Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at 10:00 AM–10:45 AM CDT
Room 203
Conference Track

8. Emerging Technologies & Trends

Learning Objectives

- understand what sort of information is available from media files

- have an overview of the tools (both commercial and open source) that help extract that information

Abstract

Playing back audio and video files isn't enough. These files are full of extremely rich data that archivists can exploit thanks to an emerging category of signal and natural language processing technologies to extract words, emotions, identity, events, and even objects. Some of these are accessible via developer-friendly APIs.
