The Role of Metacognitive Awareness in Interpretation of Writing Assignments

Abstract
In order to perform successfully, students need to understand and be aware of what a writing assignment asks them to do. The presenter discusses ESL students’ issues with interpretation of assignments, and also with professors’ implicit expectations for their writing. Teaching implications and suggestions for addressing the issues are shared.
