Equity in Grading Dual Language Learners: Promising Practices

jueves, el 5 de mayo de 2016 a las 15:30–16:15 EDT
10 Wayland
Abstract

The education of dual language learners (DLLs) has often been grounded on perspectives of linguistic deficit that perpetuate inequitable instructional and assessment practices. As a result of this, there are great disparities between DLLs and their monolingual English-speaking peers on measures of literacy and math across different grade levels. Therefore, in the last decade, educators and scholars have advocated for the use of asset-based approaches in the content-area instruction and assessment of DLLs.
