
This session will provide a forum for the discussion of current issues in teacher education for ESL and SEI. Faculty from various teacher preparation programs will identify challenges in preparing licensed ESL and SEI endorsement teachers in core academic subjects and share practices that they have found to be effective.

Paul Abraham is Director of the MATESL Program at Simmons College. He earned his master’s degree in TESL at BU and his doctorate from Harvard.
Michaela Colombo is Associate Professor and Chair at the Graduate School of Education at UMass Lowell. Her teaching focuses on preparing content-area teachers teach ELs.
Christine Leider is from the Language Education Program at Boston University. Her teaching and research focuses on langauge and literacy development for ELLs.
Janet Chumley, an Associate Professor of Practice in the MATESL Program at Simmons College, oversees clinical programming and teaches courses in linguistics and sociolinguistics.
Nicholas Santavicca is an Assistant Professor of ESL Education and Director of the American Languages & Cultures Institute at UMass Dartmouth.
