Session Description

Learn how the George Washington University Library loaded over three million linked data URI's onto MARC records in the Voyager catalog. See how the library enhances a local  Django / Python catalog application with the URIs. Many Voyager/Primo catalogs have links to WorldCat, Google Books, Google Scholar, or even Amazon. Similarly, under the label "Learn more about..." URI links to OCLC's "WorkdCat Identities"  and "WorldCat Work Descriptions" provide patrons useful background about authors and their works including a publication timeline, alternate names, widely held works, etc.  Hear about our plan to use APIs to retrieve and parse structured link data from URI sources, and integrate the information onto our catalog pages. Information from linked data sources may help patrons by: identifying additional search terms;  identifying alternative transliterations of non-roman texts; introducing concepts from the new bibliographic framework model; discovering related identities; and more.
