T09: Educational Innovations at the iSchool: a Dragons' Den Approach
Session Description
Generously Sponsored By: Canada Label
This interactive panel session will provide a forum for LIS educators, faculty members from the UBC iSchool, to pitch their latest educational innovations and receive real-time input and critique from the library community (our Dragons). As libraries and professional roles and responsibilities undergo transformation, LIS programs need to transform as well. Educational innovations at the iSchool include a greater emphasis on community-based learning, self-directed approaches to gaining technology skills, a shift to new frameworks and standards, such as RDA, and new content, such as data literacy and data analysis. Are we shifting in the right direction? Are our graduates moving into the profession with the skillset and mindset they need to tackle the challenges that lie ahead? We are looking to our community for backing.
