BC Library Conference 2016

Cyndy Hill has been the Director of Development at Surrey Libraries, working with the library team to expand fund development programs, develop the brand, institute donor cultivation and stewardship practices, launch well?received signature fundraising events, and create marketing and media campaigns. Under Cyndy’s leadership, Surrey Libraries has launched the Literacy for Life fundraising campaign, with a goal of raising $500,000 to create awareness of the importance of literacy. Cyndy is chair of the Fraser Valley Committee for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and has recently been recognized as a Surrey Board of Trade Women in Business 2013 Finalist.

Virginia Hong is the Director of Advancement at Simon Fraser University Library. Since 2010, she worked closely with the Dean of Libraries to strategize and nurture private support for key priorities in the Library. With over 15 years of fundraising and nonprofit experience, Virginia brings to the library a passion for community and relationship building. As part of the Power of Engagement Campaign for SFU’s 50th Anniversary, the library has brought in over $6,000,000 of philanthropic support over the last four years. Virginia is a candidate in the Executive Masters of Business Administration program at SFU.

Daphne Wood is the Director of Communications and Development of the Greater Victoria Public Library (and a former colleague of Jenny Marsh at Vancouver Public Library). Over the course of her career, Daphne has managed community relations, communications and fund development in the public, private and non-profit sectors. A graduate of Carleton University’s School of Journalism, Daphne also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Royal Roads University, and an Executive Masters of Library Information Science from San Jose State University. She is incoming President of the British Columbia Library Association.

Christine Walde is the Grants and Awards Librarian at the University of Victoria Libraries, where she supports and enhances the research activities, advancement and community engagement priorities of UVic Libraries, specifically in the areas of grants funding and awards, as well as special projects related to community engagement.

Jenny Marsh is Executive Director of the Vancouver Public Library Foundation. Since 2013 she has raised major, special event and annual gifts to enhance VPL spaces, collections and programs. She and her team work closely with VPL’s Chief Librarian and management team – especially Marketing Communications! – to develop strategies to increase philanthropic and grant funding to VPL. Her work in philanthropy began at UBC, where she raised more than $2M to support projects in the faculties of Science and Medicine. Prior to UBC, Jenny led the account teams at Boston-based marketing consultancy Aquent and at Paradigm, a Tokyo-based branding & communications firm.

Leslie Fields, CFRE has been a fund raiser for over 25 years. Over the past 20 years Leslie has worked at the University of British Columbia where she built the Faculty of Education Campus Fund Raising program to a $1 million goal before moving to UBC's Museum of Anthropology where she successfully managed its $10 million fund raising capital campaign goal and sponsorship campaign for one of its largest exhibits, Safar Voyage. She is currently Director of Development for UBC Library. Prior to UBC Leslie worked for the Vancouver Aquarium, Hennessy & Associates and Vancouver Opera.
