T17: A Case Study in Successful Collaboration Across Organizations
Session Description
Generously Sponsored By: Springer Nature
In spring of 2015, the Business Librarians of BC embarked on a collaborative project (APA-Biz) to produce one comprehensive, authoritative APA Business Citation guide that could be adopted by all BC post-secondary institutions.
Such a goal may seem obvious, but getting there requires reaching agreement on issues such as platform, presentation, governance and maintenance. Why take on such a daunting task?
Creating and maintaining an APA guide is a big job for each institution. Collaborating on one guide eliminates duplication of work, saves time in the long run, and provides consistency for students, faculty and librarians across the province.
This session is not about citation, but rather about managing a multi-institutional project that has technical, academic and stylistic components and requires many decisions.
The APA-Biz project is still a work in progress, but much headway has been made. Join us to understand the challenges we’ve overcome and the lessons we’ve learned, and perhaps to get inspired to launch your own collaborative project, whether it’s an extension of our citation knowledgebase to other subjects and styles or something completely different. You (and your friends) can do it, and you’ll be much more efficient if you learn from our experience before you jump in!
