Responding to Community Needs and Transforming the Degree Completion Pathway
Session Type
Thinking (Concurrent Session): 60-75 minutes
Session Description
What happens when your community’s educational needs shift from adults and degree completion to underserved youth and college access? Continuing education units and regional centers adapt! In a relatively short time frame, Grand Valley State University’s regional campus in Holland, Michigan was forced to respond to a rapidly changing target audience. In this presentation, you will learn how we assessed our community’s needs using formal and informal information gathering, as well as how we shifted our institutional programmatic focus from meeting the needs of adult students and converting immediate revenue generating enrollments to collaborating with the intermediate school district and local community college and developing a service-as-recruitment model.
