Session Description
Even as overall higher education enrollments have declined in recent years, online education remains a bright spot for growth and innovation. Colleges wishing to recruit online students must first understand their unique preferences and demands.
Dr. David Clinefelter, Chief Academic Officer of The Learning House, Inc., and Carol B. Aslanian, Senior Vice President of Aslanian Market Research, will share the results from the fifth annual “Online College Students: Comprehensive Data on Demands and Preferences” report, which surveyed 1,500 past, present, and prospective fully online college students. They will discuss how online students select an institution, what fields of study are most in demand, how alternative credentials are impacting the sector and more.

David Clinefelter, The Learning House, Inc
Brief Bio
Dr. David Clinefelter is the Chief Academic Officer at The Learning House, Inc., in Louisville, Ky., where he develops the highest academic tools, training and strategies for the company’s online partners. Dave’s 30-year career in education spans all levels, from K-12 to higher education. At the post-secondary level, Dr. Clinefelter began as a professor at the University of Nebraska, Omaha and a lecturer at The Ohio State University before he became vice president of academic affairs at Graceland University, a liberal arts institution in Iowa. From 1996 to 1997, Dr. Clinefelter served as an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow at Northwest Missouri State University. At the conclusion of his fellowship year, he became president of Graceland University and served in that capacity for six years. In 2002, Dr. Clinefelter joined Kaplan University as provost, and he joined Walden University in 2010 as Chief Academic Officer.

Carol Aslanian, Aslanian Market Research, EducationDynamics
Brief Bio
Carol B. Aslanian is Senior Vice President of Aslanian Market Research, the market research unit of EducationDynamics. She is a national authority on the characteristics and learning patterns of adult students and has given hundreds of presentations on the topic and led market research projects for more than 200 colleges, universities, and educational agencies. Ms. Aslanian has received several national awards for her contributions to the fields of community service and continuing education. Aslanian holds degrees from Cornell University and Harvard University. She served as director of the office of adult learning services at the College Board for more than 20 years, and also helped the Board enhance its services to community colleges. Aslanian also has served on the boards or committees of numerous groups, including the American Marketing Association, the Nontraditional Students Report Board of Advisors, and Elderhostel.
