Your CE Unit Needs an Upgrade: Introducing Professional Master Degrees at Your Institution

Session Description
Dean and Newbury Colleges, all private baccalaureate institutions in the Greater Boston area, have a shared history: all three institutions were established as Junior Colleges, before making the necessary shift to baccalaureate institutions in the late 20th century. In addition to robust liberal arts portfolios, these institutions also share an industry-aligned focus, as displayed in full-time and part-time, online, and accelerated professional degree programming.
Environmental factors and industry demand has led to another shift for these institutions, as they now consider professional master degree programs as an essential extension of their program delivery. While a growth opportunity in graduate programming certainly exists, this consideration entails various internal obstacles and challenges in broad consensus building among faculty, administration, institutional leadership, and trustees, as well as brokering a shared institutional vision on how a graduate culture may be successfully integrated into the College identity.
Presenters will share numerous considerations in launching professional master degree programs, including procedural, regulatory, and cultural challenges encountered. Overall, they will provide an overview of the change campaign necessary to successfully integrate new graduate degrees into longstanding academic culture.

Bill Boozang, Newbury College
Brief Bio
Bill Boozang is the Associate Program Director for Certificates at the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College. Having worked in higher education for twenty years, as an English instructor as well as a variety of administrative roles at both small and large institutions, Bill has interest in creating opportunities for affordable and accessible post-secondary education. Bill also serves as the Vice President for the Association for Continuing Higher Education, as well as on the Board of Governors for Quincy College. Bill earned his Doctor of Education at Northeastern University, where he focused on change management in private institutions.

Dee Masiello, Boston College
Brief Bio
Dee Masiello is Director of the Summer Session at the Wood College of Advancing Studies at Boston College. She has over twenty years of experience in higher education administration working in business schools and continuing studies units at both graduate and undergraduate levels. In 2006, she launched the Online MBA for Northeastern University which was the first fully-online AASCB accredited MBA program in the country. Dee holds several adjunct faculty positions teaching courses in the areas of organizational behavior, leading teams and innovation. Dee currently serves as a Vice Chair for Professional Development for the University Professional and Continuing Studies Association (UPCEA) and as Secretary for the New England Region of ACHE. Dee holds a Master of Education from Northeastern University and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Massachusetts and is currently pursuing her Doctorate from the University of Southern California’s Rossier School of Education.
