Applying Predictive Analytics to Support Completion for Adult Learners

Session Description
As a part of its Quest for Student Success, Middle Tennessee State University invested in additional advisors and predictive analytics to increase student completion rates. Over the past 18 months, advisors and leaders have developed considerable knowledge and practice expertise in the application of analytics to support the needs of at-risk students. The presenter discusses lessons learned in the application of analytics software to serve adult learners. The use of integrated planning and advising systems for adult learners is discussed, along with special considerations in using risk prediction models for nontraditional students.

Richard Sluder, Midddle Tennessee State University
Brief Bio
Richard D. Sluder serves as Vice Provost for Student Success at Middle Tennessee State University. He is responsible for carrying out MTSU’s Quest for Student Success, which includes identifying, remediating and resolving policies, practices and customs that are impediments to student success. He is also responsible for evolving the academic student support model to include transforming advisement services, integrating predictive analytics in campus workflow, and leading the course redesign and tutoring initiatives. Dr. Sluder has 22 years of prior experience at the University of Central Missouri, where he served as Vice Provost for Recruitment and Outreach, Dean of two colleges, Associate Dean and faculty.
