The goal of this session is to provide educators and administrators a road map for building adult career pathways that help adults move from school and work to advance their careers and attain higher degrees.

1-Characteristics of Working Learners
2-The three types of Career Pathways Systems and differences among them
3-The types of partnerships required by each system
4-The role of labor market information in the career pathways system and how to obtain it
5- Challenges and strategies to engage employers
6- Examples of educational reforms that support the development of career pathways: integration of ABE and academic education, competency based education and assessments, articulation agreements, bridge programs, etc.
7. Resources available to educators and schools in building new career pathways partnerships and programs
Session Description
This session will focus on the solutions to problems that prevent many citizens from obtaining the education that today’s workplace demands. The education and workforce community will explore ways to work together to reach out to employers and provide new leadership on building new a adult career pathways system. Participants will learn the Department of Labor’s multi-stage process for building a career pathways system that connects all the pieces together for working adults. These stages or key elements create a continuous process of assessing the career opportunities afforded by the local economy now and in the future, revamping existing programs and services to enable residents to seize those opportunities. Career pathway systems provide a clear sequence of education coursework or training credentials, linked to employment in high growth jobs and careers and adult educators have a role to play!
