
This interactive workshop will equip participants with the knowledge they need to create a therapeutic alliance with transgender and gender-nonconforming clients. Topics covered will include terminology, historical perspectives in mental health, co-occurring conditions, gender history interviews, social issues, treatment planning, and new criteria in the DSM-5.
Professional
Reynold Watkins, MPA, develops and presents workshops for LGBT youth at Models of Pride, the International Conference on Social Sciences, and California Men's Gathering. He works with professionals as a research assistant to create curriculum on special topics. Areas of expertise include health psychology, end-of-life issues, music therapy, and nonprofit management. Mr. Watkins has a BA in psychology, and a master’s degree in public administration.
Roxanne Cherry, PhD, has been an MFT in private practice for 30 years. She specializes in working with families in which an individual is dealing with gender identity issues. Sometimes, these clients often have co-occurring conditions including LGB concerns, addiction, communication challenges, grief, anxiety, and depression. Her clientele spans from youth to seniors, and she incorporates art therapy, hypnotherapy, and pet-assisted therapy into her work. Dr. Cherry is a speaker, consultant, and AAMFT-certified supervisor.
