Theories of affect (e.g., Deleuze & Guattari, 1980/1987; Manning, 2013; Massumi, 2002, 2015) resist application in traditional research approaches. I present an approach incorporating affect theory as a means of critiquing and expanding theoretical implications of a critical incident study exploring the emotional labor (Hochschild, 1983) experiences of adult educators.
