Program Summary/Abstract Description
Immersion educators often wonder how to extend the impact of their program to the broader community, while the daily demands of instruction force them to make choices favoring content learning over attention to language or intercultural competence. This session will show how the integration of biliteracy and intercultural competence can internationalize curriculum leading to deeper content learning through (1) authentic project-based learning that integrates themes of social/environmental justice leading to local/global student action, (2) global action-focused performance assessments and feedback promoting language acquisition, (3) global connection and collaboration with partner classrooms examining the same theme. Using environmental/social justice issues, attendees will connect the UN Global Goals with project-based learning for biliteracy and intercultural competence while setting goals for collaboration with a partner school to enhance the immersion experience for their students.
