Program Summary/Abstract Description

The session will report on preliminary results from a major researcher-practitioner partnership study supported by a grant from the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) at the U.S. Department of Education. The study is an important follow-up to the study of Portland Public Schools and will produce important findings that will help guide DLI programs across the nation.

The session will report on initial results about the effects of DLI on student achievement for both English Language learners and native English speakers.  The presenters will also report on the extent to which ELs in Utah are enrolled in one-way, two-way, and non-immersion programs and how that varies by Utah school district.  In addition, the presenters will discuss what processes Utah districts use to allocate slots for enrollment in DLI.

The study commenced in July 2017 and will be completed in mid-2019.
