Program Summary/Abstract Description
In Chinese immersion education, students are exposed in the Chinese environment so that their Chinese listening and speaking skills can be improved naturally in novice level. But their reading and writing skills cannot be improved automatically just because of the exposure. Using the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) , which addresses the World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and uses today’s communication media in which test takers perform tasks to demonstrate language ability, as the assessment tool, this paper analyzes the AAPPL data of 120 students over 3 years, analyzes the effectiveness of the testing strategies to improve the students’ academic performance and the students’ language proficiency. The testing strategies implemented in the study include Five-step writing strategies, Key-word strategies, and Extended vocabulary strategies.
