Short Description

Today, middle-aged and older American homeonwers had higher mortgage debts relative to home value. Leveraging from mortgage loans put financial stability in later years at risk. Meanwhile, health declined with aging, increasing financial burdens from health costs. Bridging mortgage debts and health, this study focused on American mortgagors over age 50, investigating health impact on mortgage payment progress. First, what impact did health shock have on likelihood of mortgage payoff? Second, what was the estimated time to pay off a mortgage loan (given unobserved payoff) under different health conditions? Survival analysis featuring both observed payoff and censored outcome was performed, with estimated time to (censored) payoff predicted.
