Short Description

Using the data from 2016 wave of the Survey of Consumer Finances, this study examines the association between households' perceived need for emergency funds and their expectations of financial support from relatives during the time of financial hardship. Controlling for various demographic, finanical, employment, health and attitudinal aspects of the households, the regression results show that the percieved amount is lower by an average of 24% for the finanical support seeking households.
