Learning Objectives

Following this session, participants will be able to engage in strategic discussions within their own organizations about the sustainability of existing Short Term Loan models, understand the current goals of librarians in adopting Short Term Loan in their collection management practices, and understand the approaches publishers are taking to find a financially stable model for ensuring short term access to scholarly monographs.

Abstract

DDA has established itself as the “just in time” access solution for monographs. But has STL introduced irreversible disruption for publishers/vendors, while providing libraries a solution for providing access to infrequently-used monographs?  We explore the current landscape focused on a shared objective to allow scholarly communication and DDA to thrive.
