Session Abstract

The purpose of this session is to share the experiences of this presenter as awardee and reviewer and support adult education scholars in identifying Fulbright opportunities relevant to their work.

Target Audience

Adult education scholars and practioners, graduate students, faculty and all others interested in learning from the experiences of an awardee towards securing Fulbright awards.

Learning Outcomes

It is hoped that the session will motivate more colleagues to apply for the Fulbright awards. More importantly, it is hoped that the presenter’s experiences will provide useful insights for applicants to support their ability to successfully earn Fulbright awards.

Session Description

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program…and it is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries” (Fulbright 2019). This presenter has been fortunate to receive the Fulbright Scholar award for U.S. scholars in teaching and research twice – 2013 and 2019 – and has also served as a discipline peer reviewer for the program for three years. The purpose of this session is to share the experiences of this presenter as awardee and reviewer and support adult education scholars in identifying Fulbright opportunities relevant to their work. It is hoped that the session will motivate more colleagues to apply for the Fulbright. More importantly, it is hoped that the presenter’s experiences will provide useful insights for applicants to support their ability to successfully earn Fulbright awards.

 

 

Format & Technique

The session is mostly informational and question and answer dialogue to share experiences and skills relating to preparing a sound Fulbright awards appplication. The session will beging with a few slides of background information and topics that require critical questions and answers. Other Fulbright awardees in attendance will be invited to provide answers relevant to their experiences.
