Session Abstract

This preliminary research focuses on post-disaster adaptation education in communities impacted by climate events. Post-disaster adaptation education is an important area of study for adult educators working in communities impacted by climate change.

Target Audience

The target audience for this research includes adult educators, community educators, researchers, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, as well as local government entities.

Learning Outcomes

1. Participants will learn about adaptation education in communities impacted by climate change.
2. Participants will learn of current issues facing climate change education in the international setting.
3. Participants will gain an understanding of the role of adult education in communities impacted by post-disaster climate events.

Session Description

This roundtable will discuss the role of adult education in communities impacted by climate change. Natural disasters, such as floods, mudslides, wildfires, tsunamis, hurricanes, and earthquakes, are becoming more frequent and more severe in many communities around the world. Other communities may suffer prolonged instances of floods and droughts that negatively impact agriculture and peoples’ livelihoods. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important that mitigation and adaptation strategies be provided to vulnerable communities in order to build resilience, as well as provide stakeholders a means for self-advocacy and empowerment. As I begin an exploration for my dissertation topic, I welcome your feedback, questions, and a lively discussion regarding this important research area.

Format & Technique

For the roundtable discussison, I will prepare a description of my research, which is currently in development. I am interested in a roundtable session so that I can engage in conversation with others and recieve feedback on my research study.
