Session Abstract
The good, the bad, and the ugly learning experiences, we have all had them! This session focuses on lessoned learned while leading international study tours. These lessons are applicable in all experiential learning environments. Come learn how to achieve the good, over come the bad and recover from the ugly.
Target Audience
All facilitators and curriculum designers of adult education will have an interest in this session. Professionals and practitioners from education, business, law enforcement, and health care may also find the session beneficial as it can inform their practice.

Session Description
Many adult learners are looking for meaningful and enriching learning experiences and they are interested in exploring their relevancy in a growing global community. Travel can be one of the most impactful experiences in one’s life and can lead to deeply profound personal transformation. It is also important for designers and instructors of experiential learning experiences for adult learners (such as study tours) to take into consideration the unique viewpoints of these students so optimal learning and transformation is achieved. In this session, we will discuss lessons learned by the facilitator of an international experiential learning experience (study tour). The aim of this session is to share insights gained through experience on how to achieve good if not great, experiences for your learner, while avoiding the bad experiences and when the "ugly" happens how do you and your learners recover from that experience. Experiential learning has long been recognized as a valuable learning method, study tours are the ultimate experiential learning experience for the facilitator and the participant. The shared lessons learned are applicable in multiple experiential learning environments from business, health care, law enforcement and traditional academic settings
