Swiss Library Service Platform: From the Idea to a Changeover for Switzerland!
Conference or Developers' Day

Abstract
The Swiss library landscape has been undergoing major changes for years. All university libraries in Switzerland are merging their local systems and individual networks into the Swiss Library Service Platform (SLSP), a nationwide network with a common Alma library system. The initiator of this movement was the ETH Library. Since 1987, ETH has operated the largest multilingual library network in Switzerland with around 140 member libraries. In 2017, ETH Library decided to give up this successful network in order to launch the SLSP. Today, two years before Go Live, SLSP became an independent institution and numerous project teams are implementing the change all over the country.
Andreas Kirstein, Deputy Director of ETH Library and ideator of SLSP reveals how a simple idea led to the greatest change in the Swiss library world. He tells about emotional and technical obstacles and which opportunities he sees for the libraries and their customers in the future by implementing SLSP.
