An introduction to the roots of TL learning theory and contemporary conceptualizations of TL

My STLR project focused on the collection of data from students who took the Applied Research Class in London, May 2019. Having taken the class two times before and then again in 2019, I knew what these new students were experiencing. Taking the course is one thing, but working as an outsider looking in, is different. For me, again having taken the class, it was interesting to learn just how our experiences vary. Managing time to conduct interviews, creating questionnaires, and editing video interviews was a transformative learning experience. I stepped into the leadership position at the end of class to finish editing video interviews. Through this project, I expanded my previous knowledge on video editing while creating a video for the class through the students’ voices. I learned to create effective surveys and while the project did not receive many responses at first, the ones we received, helped the project immensely. Those few responses allowed us to understand which questions prompted more insightful answers. The video interviews themselves took a lot of time, which we didn’t anticipate. If I was to conduct a similar project, I would definitely come up with the questions before the trip, set aside specific time for the video interviews, and set aside time within the class for the questionnaires. We all worked towards civic engagement in regard to helping the class. We wanted more people to know about the class and how it can change their perspective of the world and their lives.
