Session Description
This presentation will use adult learning theories to explain the research design, analysis, and report emerging themes from the first round of a modified Delphi study which sought to understand more deeply what constitutes profound living. Participants will learn about the concepts that informed the research to include profound learning, profundity, and our literature review (Holyoke et al., 2020). This literature review described the profound living conceptualization, which is informed by Loevinger’s Ego Development Theory (EDT) as a framework to inform the essential dimensions of living profoundly. EDT identifies patterns of healthy human development related to progressing awareness as the ego drives meaning making.
The profound living conceptualization is made up of a person’s values, virtues, and perspectives that directly connects to three critical support pillars: eudaimonia, wisdom, and narrative. Profound living is an activity, not a destination. It is a trajectory of becoming. Connecting to the concept of profound learning, profound living stands as a way of life continually going deeper.
