Session Abstract

We are curious about the experiences of faculty colleagues engaged in informal and incidental learning about interdisciplinary inclusive pedagogy and practice in response to the pandemic and its attendant crises. In this roundtable, we will facilitate a conversation introducing our preliminary research project and inquiring into the experiences of participants.

Session Description

Some of our most productive conversations and innovative projects related to inclusive and interdisciplinary teaching and learning have come from informal and incidental learning we’ve experienced during social interactions with people spanning our professional and social networks. For example, Liz has led and Adrienne has participated in a new discussion group/book club composed of faculty from across the United States that meets monthly over Zoom to discuss various books, podcasts, and other resources that promote anti-racist and inclusive teaching. We’ve learned a great deal (informally and incidentally) and have found much value in participating in this and other social activities with work colleagues. This is particularly true as the pandemic has disrupted and reordered how we are approaching our teaching in response to the health, economic, technological, and social justice crises of the past year. We became curious about and have begun inquiring into the experiences of other faculty colleagues that have engaged in informal and incidental learning about interdisciplinary and inclusive pedagogy and practice during and as a response to the pandemic and its attendant and related crises. In this roundtable we will facilitate a conversation introducing our preliminary research project and inquiring into the experiences of participants.
