Session Abstract

Blacks have been marginalized in agriculture. The number of blacks owning  farms have declined significantly.  Young black individuals are moving away from careers in agriculture. NextGen and Small-Farm-Institute at Prairie View A&M University are rekindling the lost love for agriculture through elementary students' involvement and Adult Education for minority Farmers.

Session Description

It is very important that we reflect on our past so we can approach the future with a sense of direction. Research shows that minority, especially blacks are moving away from the field of agriculture. As minorities we need to be rounded, not just in direct education but also the practice of securing food for our families and our sisters and brothers within our communities. This presentation is aimed at sharing some aspects of Prairie A&M University NextGen and Small-Farm-Institute project and how it is impacting the education of the youths towards the field of agriculture while supporting adults.
