Museum Education and Curriculum Development: A Literature Review for a Multiple Case Study Analysis
Keywords
Adult Education in Art Museum
Session Abstract
A literature review on museums, education and curriculum development focuses on a multiple case study analysis of adult education for urban art museums. The literature about the theories of adult education, including transformative learning, post-structural feminism and constructivism, are reviewed as they apply to adult education in museums.
Session Description
This literature review is about the perspectives in the field of adult education for the urban art museum. My goal with this integrative review is to conduct primary research on key concepts around adult education in art museums and to show how theories of constructivism, post-structural feminism and transformative learning define adult educational programming. I use these theories as frameworks to encourage action on the institutional level when implementing adult education programs for the benefit of the public. Through this literature review, I identify any debates or current trends and identify what is missing in the literature. This includes the debate on pedagogy, government and community relations and the lack of research on modern technology in education and visitor experience.
