Session Abstract
The purpose of the study was to explore the factors that influence the transfer of knowledge learned through professional development training by K-12 educators during the pandemic. Transfer of training theory was utilized, and a qualitative study was conducted through 30 interviews with K-12 educators in the United States.
Session Description
As coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) has been rapidly spreading in the United States, kindergarten to 12th grade(K-12) schools experienced forced closures and reopening in 2020 to protect the well-being of society. During the Covid-19 crisis, many changes have happened in the education system. For example, across the country, many districts and schools have moved to learn completely or partially online. Therefore, teachers need to participate in professional learning to gain new knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) to address the work changes. It is important to understand the teachers’ experience of learning transfer and explore the factors that influence the transfer for learning. The results of the study could help researchers explore the role of human resource development (HRD) in the transfer of learning among K-12 teachers during the pandemic. Also, HRD professionals could use this study to understand the challenges in the transfer of learning during the pandemic and provide efficient support to K-12 teachers to improve their experience of learning transfer.
