Session Abstract

This presentation shares experiences and online teaching practices of three diverse faculty identities – Asian female, White male, and Black male in one Adult & Higher Education program addressing the “isms” around racial, gender, political and social injustices. How we speak from and speak to these injustices using our identities

Session Description

This session is important as it provides the experiences of three distinct faculty identities – Asian Female – Addressing gender “isms” and impact of COVID-19, “Asian Hate” and the intersectionality of gender, diversity, social justice and sharing transformative practices in the online graduate classroom
Black Male – Addressing racial “isms” and the impact of COVID-19, the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests and the intersectionality of identity, race, class, and adult education.
White Male – Addressing the issue of allyship and the intersection of White male privilege, political issues related to “isms” and misinformation and how Adult Education can address these issues from a White Male perspective.
We will share how we use our identities in the online learning environment to move the needle in challenging social justice issues around race, gender, class, diversity and misinformation. We will provide specific techniques and strategies that attendees can use in the online graduate classrooms.
With the current state of affairs around BLM protest, Asian Hate and Allyship this session will be relevant and impactful to fellow adult educators and graduate students seeking ways they can use their platform and space to foster positive change.
