Participants in this session will be introduced to strategies for creating a rich learning environment. Relevant research, discussion, and application will be included.
Session Description
The purpose of this session will be to discuss best practices for engaging in successful concurrent teaching of adults with learners joining both in-person and via videoconference. The typical assumption is that professors can only produce a valuable learning environment for one of the two groups at a time. Although this scenario has become common during the past year, the facilitators of this session have many years of experience with effective concurrent teaching.
The challenge faced by instructors is to develop an instructional strategy that creates an equally engaging environment and experience for adult learners in either geographical location. The discussion will be used to facilitate and answer the question - Does applying traditional teaching practices previously used in the classroom translate to effective teaching for online students?
Participants in this session will be introduced to strategies for creating a rich learning environment including ways to use instructional techniques that balance student interest and engagement within both modalities. Although increasing engagement of online students may be difficult there are many interactive tools that can be used in either modality. In addition, participants will be encouraged to share any applied techniques that they have used to produce a successful concurrent environment.
