This presentation will highlight ways an academic major created an outreach program to build a sense of community and to retain one underrepresented student population, female students. Activities from the program, best practices for scheduling, and funding ideas will be shared that could be incorporated into other majors and organizations.
Session Description
Recruiting and retaining students from underrepresented populations is challenging. Female students are one example of an underrepresented population in academic majors. Outreach activities are one strategy to help build a sense of community for underrepresented populations to help to retain these students.
