Military Proctored Testing Prior Learning

Session Abstract

This session will address how identifying key barriers to degree completion for military and post-traditional students in distance learning programs can inform decision-making practices for student retention and academic success. Presenters will review the role of prior learning assessment and proctored testing along with their impact on degree completion challenges.

Session Description

By identifying critical barriers to degree completion for military and post-traditional students in distance learning programs, colleges and universities can reduce the likelihood of adverse impact; thereby, enhancing student retention and academic success. The College of Continuing Studies at the University of Alabama examined the barriers presented by proctored testing and the use of prior learning assessment among our military and post-traditional students enrolled in various distance degree completion programs to reduce stop-outs and accelerate graduation rates. This roundtable discussion examines factors used in adult learners’ decision-making. In addition, moderators will highlight best practices in facilitating a student-centered approach to problem-solving and identifying innovative student services resources that support retention, student satisfaction, and success.
