Session Abstract

This roundtable discussion will address the drivers, growth, and challenges of microcredentials in higher education. We'll discuss positioning, designing, and delivering microcredentials, how entities such as google have impacted the field, the advantages and disadvantages higher education has in the competitive space, and the benefit of such programs to students.

Session Description

Microcredentials have exploded in the adult learning space, both on an individual and corporate level, as working adults and companies look to upskill and create employment opportunities without the expense and time of full degrees. Business entities such as google and coursera are rapidly expanding their offerings, and have created partnerships with leading universities to provide pathways to recognized credentials and degrees. Universities who do not enter this competitive space may find themselves left behind in the critical adult learner market. The ability to identify possible microcredentials, competitors, and design and delivery aspects will be critical for success.
