Session Abstract

Do you know how many people are incarcerated across the U.S.? Approximately 2.3 million people and more than 95% will return to their communities. How can we support those who have been system impacted? Let's talk challenges, strategies and shared experience and how adult educators can break the stigma now.

Session Description

The purpose of the roundtable will be to identify and discuss challenges and barriers regarding stigma and perception of system impacted individuals in the community, particularly those who have been formerly incarcerated. Technology seems intuitive to most of us, but what if you had not had access for a few years, or how about a decade or two? The fundamental component of serving those who are system impacted is at the core--the person. Understanding the unique lived experiences of the individual. This segment guides how the community, higher education and other fields can rally together to support all those who are system impacted.
