Session Abstract

Positive academic leadership drives a culture of engagement, learning, and organizational performance. How can leaders help others thrive and excel in the academic environment? Integrating research from positive psychology and neuroscience, we will explore immediately applicable strategies in five key aspects: strengths, meaning in work, feedback, positive emotions, and wellness.

Session Description

Positive leadership employed in academic settings can have transformational outcomes. This session will present a solid argument for its use, share foundational roots in psychology and neuroscience, and explore five key elements. In a challenging world, positive leaders bring light, transcend barriers and division between people, and create environments where all can succeed.
Positive leadership is not simply being positive regardless of the situation. Positive leaders adhere to proven strategies to connect with others. They celebrate what is working and acknowledge what is not in order to continuously improve. They create environments where others can work to strengths, find meaning in daily activities, and understand their role in the institution's mission. Positive leadership is an approach that can benefit any leader, follower, or environment.
