Program Summary
This presentation examines teacher ideologies and practices in teaching Arabic as a heritage language in a community-based setting in the US. Using indexicality and its nexus to language ideologies, the study identifies the key index values assigned to Arabic. Data illustrate how teachers’ ideologies were paradoxical with their pedagogical practices.
