Clarivate’s recent announcement about the changes in Rialto and Ebook Central were an unwelcome surprise to many in the community. While Collecto's integration into Rialto offers rich potential for collection development, the internal arrangement of the two products at present remains unclear.

This presentation traces Rialto’s evolution from its original streamlining of acquisitions management through the recent market disruption. We will examine the consequences for institutional resource strategies and the subsequent challenges facing library professionals.

Moving beyond current frustrations, the talk will investigate the potential of Rialto-Collecto’s holistic approach to collection development. By proposing adaptive strategies to navigate these transitions, the talk will, hopefully, reimagine a dynamic acquisitions landscape in an increasingly complex digital ecosystem.
