Abstract

The University of Oslo Library participated in the Alma's AI Metadata Assistant - early access workgroup from September 2024 to January 2025.

In this presentation we would like to share our experiences in the testing of the AI tool, from the start to the more mature version that we utilize today. The test version was developed for English language resources. Our approach has been to test even other languages, including Norwegian and retrospective cataloguing of older material.

After the testing period we have implemented the Alma AI Metadata Assistant in our cataloguing workflow. Being part of a consortium with a shared catalogue for university and academic libraries, we have negotiated a common practice with the community.

We would like to share our approaches to cataloguing workflows in the consortium, and share our thoughts on usability, time and resource effectiveness and ideas for future improvements.
