Navigating the Post-Go-Live Phase: Alma Implementation at the University of the Free State Library

Abstract
The University of the Free State Library recently transitioned from the legacy Sierra system to the Alma Library Services Platform—a major shift in digital infrastructure. While implementation and go-live often receive the most focus, the post-implementation phase is frequently the most challenging, marked by workflow disruptions, staff resistance, and the need for sustained change management. This case study highlights the UFS Library’s strategies for navigating this phase, drawing on leadership, a phased approach, and a dedicated change team to reduce technophobia and ensure continuity. It offers practical insights into maintaining momentum and achieving long-term success in digital transformation.
