D18-01 - User Personas: How Fake People Can Help Us Make Libraries Better

Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 2:15 PM–3:00 PM CDT
Room 102
Keywords

personas, users, empathy, tools, design

Learning Objectives

At the end of this session, attendees can expect to understand what personas are, how they are used to design and enhance library services and resources, how they are used to build empathy for the user experience, and how to create personas and introduce them into your work culture.

Abstract

Personas are archetypes of our patrons that remind us of who we serve and what their motivations and behaviors are. This helps us design better services, spaces, and tools for them. We will discuss using these tools to create a culture of empathy and user-centered design in our libraries.
